Transitions Research and the All India Disaster Mitigation Institute (AIDMI) jointly organised a roundtable on “Harnessing Collective Knowledge: Advancing Adaptation Research and Action through Tracking, Learning, and Sharing around Extreme Heat” on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, from 04:00 PM to 05:00 PM IST.

The roundtable brought together diverse stakeholders—from researchers and practitioners to policymakers and community leaders—to explore how systematic tracking, adaptive learning, and knowledge sharing could enhance resilience against extreme heat events. As climate-related heatwaves have intensified, the discussion sought to foster collaborative approaches and evidence-based strategies that ensure inclusive, locally led, and data-informed adaptation efforts prioritising affected communities.

The roundtable also launched a special issue of Southasiadisasters.net on “Harnessing Collective Knowledge: Advancing Adaptation Research and Action through Tracking, Learning, and Sharing around Extreme Heat” for wider circulation and application.

Key Objectives:

  1. To explore effective mechanisms for tracking and analysing extreme heat impacts and adaptation responses with a focus on affected populations across diverse contexts.

  2. To facilitate learning exchanges that highlight successful strategies, local innovations, and evidence-based approaches to heat adaptation.

  3. To promote collaborative knowledge sharing among practitioners, researchers, and policymakers to strengthen collective climate resilience.
