In recent years, the acceleration of climate change has led to more frequent and intense extreme weather events globally, surpassing historical norms and model projections (UNDRR 2024).
The All India Disaster Mitigation Institute (AIDMI) and the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) jointly organized the Virtual Roundtable on ‘Climate Extremes: Pathways for Preparedness and Anticipatory Action’ on Friday, January 24, 2025, from 04:00 PM to 05:00 PM IST. This roundtable examined the increasing frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, the challenges of forecasting co-located hazards, and the heightened vulnerability of marginalised communities.
The discussion was guided by a special issue of Southasiadisasters.net produced by the panel members, aiming to integrate expertise from various fields and enhance cooperative efforts to take practical steps in building resilience to climate extremes, as well as pathways for preparedness and anticipatory action.
