There is a need to address school safety in an integrated manner, including addressing violence against children and all the risks faced by a child during the journey from home to school back home. A comprehensive approach for school safety, which addresses- 1) Safe Environment and Disaster Risk Reduction; and 2) Child Protection issues, is being implemented in schools of Assam and Bihar. This approach needs to be mainstreamed at the strategic upstream level through reflection on improved national school safety guidelines and integrated with Education Sector plans and Disaster Management Authority mandate at the national and state levels.
Additionally, the integrated approach of comprehensive school safety programming needs to be promoted at the school level with maximum participation of children and organic linkages with their families so that efforts lead to resilience building of the entire community.
It is in this context that the AIDMI collaborates with UNICEF India to provide technical support in institutionalizing a comprehensive school safety framework and scale-up in various states on the CSSP.
